National Meeting

Each year, the Boy Scouts of America holds a national
convention at various large cities around the country.
The 3000 or so attendees at the national convention
are volunteers and professional Scouters from all over
the USA who provide leadership, guidance, and funding
for Scouting throughout the year. BSA held its national
convention in DC this year at the Marriott Wardman
Park.  The National President of BSA runs the
convention, and a new set of officers is elected and
installed.  National awards and recognitions are made
for outstanding contributions to Scouting on a regional
(Silver Antelope award) and national (Silver Buffalo
award) basis, and there are many special ceremonies
for the awardees.  Each Boy Scout Council is asked to
provide volunteer and professional support and special
events and ceremonies for the convention. Never
forgetting that BSA is first a boy-serving organization,
many of the volunteers are Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts,
and Venture Scouts.  Troop 970 was fortunate in
having a number of boys being selected to serve as
color guards and speakers and characters in the award
ceremonies. Eagle Scouts Francis G, Andrew C, Scott
Y, and Star Scouts Chris L and BJY participated.  The
national convention moves each year, and so it will be
20 years or so before the convention returns to DC!!
